EVENT: Free Master Class with Brian Chen

I'm very pleased to announce that Che-Yen "Brian" Chen, principal violist of the San Diego Symphony, will be presenting a free master class at SDSU, open to the public. Mr. Chen was a top prizewinner at the Primrose and Tertis International Viola Competitions, and recently a featured soloist with the San Diego Symphony.

Mr. Chen will coach three of my SDSU students in works of Walton, Brahms and Shulman. I hope you can attend what promises to be a very exciting and illuminating event!

I'm very excited about this performance!  The repertoire includes Schumann's Marchenbilder for Viola and Piano, Martinu's Trio for Flute, Viola, and Piano and works by Debussy and Reinecke.  Performances will take place at St. Paul's Cathedral, a private residence, and the Neurosciences Institute.  I hope you can make it!

Violist David Aaron Carpenter, First Prize winner of the Naumburg Viola Competition performs this weekend!  Program highlights include Clarke’s Viola Sonata, Primrose’s arrangement of “La Campanella,” and Piazzolla’s “Le Grand Tango.” I highly encourage all string players to attend this concert!
